Drawing Management Program
To enhance document accessibility, streamline workflows and standardize engineering data across facilities, Millipore Sigma partnered with Compli to implement a comprehensive Drawing Management Program for its Lenexa, Kansas site. This multi-phased effort, extending through 2024, laid the foundation for consistent documentation and long-term system efficiency.
Timeline: August 2023 – December 2024
A Structured, Phased Approach to Drawing Management
Compli led the program in close coordination with Millipore Sigma’s internal point of contact, managing technical execution across three interconnected phases.
Phase I: Facility/Utility/Process AutoCAD Drawing Updates
Compli began with an extensive audit and update of the site’s existing AutoCAD drawings. Working both remotely and on-site, the team converted and standardized facility, utility and process system drawings that previously existed as a combination of hard copies and legacy electronic files. Tasks included redline integration, drawing consolidation and metadata cleanup to improve clarity and organization. Architectural drawing sets were unified into Master Background files to support future planning and maintenance needs.
Phase II: Meridian Database Upload and Standardization
With drawing files updated and aligned, Compli transitioned to document upload and organization within Millipore Sigma’s on-premises Meridian database. This phase included baseline metadata generation to enable fast document retrieval and improve long-term database utility. Compli coordinated closely with Hagerman & Co., Millipore Sigma’s designated Meridian vendor, to ensure uploads aligned with enterprise-wide standards.
Phase III: Drawing Management Consultation and Integration
To support long-term scalability, Compli provided strategic consulting services across both the Lenexa and St. Louis sites. The team developed sitewide CAD design standards, evaluated the existing drawing management procedures and provided recommendations for operational enhancements—particularly around a proposed transition to a validated Meridian environment. As part of this phase, Compli also facilitated equipment procurement, including the acquisition of a large-format scanner/plotter to maintain and print up-to-date drawings on demand.
Project Outcome
This effort marked a full transition from disjointed drawing archives to a structured, centralized and scalable documentation system. Compli’s combination of technical execution and strategic oversight allowed Millipore Sigma to streamline engineering documentation processes, increase accessibility and improve the long-term maintainability of critical facility data.
